We're Matt Beal and Matt Liptak, and we run a practice called 2M Studios. We both come from financial backgrounds in the tech industry, and we work with accounting firm owners to put AI to work in their firms - improving their client experience and making their teams more efficient. We've enjoyed the work, the industry and the problems to solve so much that we're now looking to buy a firm of our own.
Before starting 2M Studios, we spent the last decade at Storable, a technology provider in the self-storage industry. We each owned our own product line and its P&L, managing teams of finance professionals to hit those numbers. Matt Liptak specializes in operations and data, and Matt Beal in building and deploying technology.
We spent that decade close to small business owners, learning how they actually make money and what it takes to make one more profitable. The best accounting firms help their clients with exactly that, and it's what drew us to owning a firm ourselves.
We've each lived in Austin for close to twenty years, where we've built our families and our community.
We would run the firm personally and be in it every day.
The people who built your firm are the firm. We invest in them and give them better tools for the work they do.
Keeping faith with the clients who trust you is the job. We'd want a real handover, on a timeline that works for them.
We take repetitive work off your team's plate so their time goes to clients and judgment.
You've built a great firm, and we plan to pay competitive market value for it. We're not looking for a deal or a discount.
Whether you're selling this year or sometime in the future, we'd love to chat.
If you have never had your practice valued, we are happy to give you a rough estimate. Move the two sliders below and we will show you roughly where a firm like yours trades.
Roughly what is left over after all operating costs, including a market salary for whoever runs the firm.
This is a rough, high-level estimate built on general industry benchmarks for firms of different sizes. It is not a valuation, it is not an appraisal, it is not an offer, and nothing here is binding on anyone.
What your firm is actually worth depends on things no calculator can see: how much of the work runs through you personally, how long your clients have been with you and how concentrated they are, your pricing relative to the market, the mix of recurring versus seasonal work, the strength and tenure of your team, your systems, your lease, your margins' durability, and plenty more. Two firms with identical revenue and identical margins can be worth materially different amounts, and often are.
If you want a real answer rather than a rough one, that takes a conversation. Call or email either of us and we are glad to walk through your firm and what actually drives its number - whether or not you ever decide to sell.
That's perfectly understandable. A few other conversations we'd welcome:
Coffee or a call, whichever suits you. We'd like to hear about what you've built.
We know how sensitive this is inside a firm. We'll sign an NDA before you share anything. Your staff hear nothing until a signed agreement is set to close, and your clients hear nothing until after closing.
