2M Studios

Thinking about selling your accounting firm in Austin?

We are 2M Studios, and we are looking to buy an accounting services firm focused on bookkeeping here in Austin. We are Matt Beal and Matt Liptak, two operators who spent the last decade building and running software businesses. We will run this firm ourselves rather than as absentee owners, with both of us in it every day. The way we see it, the job is taking care of the team and the clients you spent years building. We plan to build and implement tools that take the repetitive work off your people's desks, so their time goes to clients and to judgment. We are not private equity and we are not a broker.

01

Do you know what your firm is worth?

If you have never had your practice valued, we are happy to give you a rough estimate. Move the two sliders below and we will show you roughly where a firm like yours trades.

$2.50M
30%

Roughly what is left over after all operating costs, including a market salary for whoever runs the firm.

Estimated enterprise value
$2.95M

This is a rough, high-level estimate built on general industry benchmarks for firms of different sizes. It is not a valuation, it is not an appraisal, it is not an offer, and nothing here is binding on anyone.

Additional information about this estimate

What your firm is actually worth depends on things no calculator can see: how much of the work runs through you personally, how long your clients have been with you and how concentrated they are, your pricing relative to the market, the mix of recurring versus seasonal work, the strength and tenure of your team, your systems, your lease, your margins' durability, and plenty more. Two firms with identical revenue and identical margins can be worth materially different amounts, and often are.

If you want a real answer rather than a rough one, that takes a conversation. Call or email either of us and we are glad to walk through your firm and what actually drives its number - whether or not you ever decide to sell.

02

How we're different

We are buying this to grow it, not to cut it.

We are people-focused operators. We want to develop the people already in your firm and give them room to grow into whatever the next thing is for each of them. We are not looking to eliminate roles and we are not buying a business in order to slash its costs.

Both of us will be operating the business day to day.

We are not hiring a manager and checking in quarterly. Neither of us has ever run a business from a distance and we are not going to start with yours.

Building better tools for the people doing the work.

We spent our careers building software for small businesses, and we intend to do the same inside this firm. Our aim is to get the repetitive work off your team's desks: the retyping, the reformatting, the chasing of paperwork. Their time goes to clients, to judgment, and to the parts of the job they trained for.

Your clients get looked after.

You spent years building those relationships. We intend to be good stewards of them, and being in the business every day is how we plan to do it.

We pay fair market value.

We plan to pay competitive market value for the right firm. We are not looking for a steal, we are not trying to undercut anyone, and we would rather not have this come down to grinding you on price. What you built is worth what it is worth.

Your timeline governs, not ours.

If the right answer is eighteen months from now, we would rather know each other for eighteen months than push. If the answer is never, that is a fine answer too.

Confidentiality

We know how sensitive this is. Nothing about a conversation with us reaches anyone else. Your staff does not hear about it until there is a signed deal that is going to close, and your clients do not hear about it until after it closes. We are glad to sign an NDA before you tell us anything, and we will offer one before you have to ask.
